Professional Development

Jumpstart provides freely available teaching materials and professional development to Principals, teachers and classroom assistants.

If a school chooses to enrol, three years of support will be offered by the Jumpstart team to embed these systems in the school’s instructional practice so that they are sustainable and protected.

Year 1: Introduction of resources, routines, and tracking systems.

Year 2: Structured transfer of responsibilities from consultants to school staff.

Year 3: Graduation from the consultancy programme and established as a mentor school.

Coaching sessions are provided weekly 1-1 for Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 7 teachers. These coaching sessions allow teachers to receive personalised training on their teaching steps and behaviour management.

Principals are also provided with coaching to enhance their leadership capacity and enable them to deliver their vision for the school’s reading development. This ensures that the school can implement the programme effectively and benefit as much as possible from the three years of support.

Whole school literacy training sessions are also provided once a term to cascade out the knowledge of the programme and its teaching techniques to all the staff. This is supported by resources and short training videos which are available to both staff and families.
